How to tell if you are dealing with a legitimate rental agency?

How to tell if you are dealing with a legitimate rental agency? Are you dealing with a legitimate rental agency?  Ontario Cottage Rental Agencies must be accredited by TICO (Travel Industry Council of Ontario) in order to rent cottages to the public.  TICO has set out a number of rules and regulations to protect you, the consumer when renting a cottage in Ontario.  Ontario Cottage Rental Agencies must follow these guidelines or they will be shut down.  TICO holds Ontario cottage rental agencies accountable for following good business and fair advertising practices.  Among the guidelines, rental agencies must hold all rental payments/deposits in a trust bank account until the day your Ontario vacation begins.  Our books get audited annually to ensure procedures are being followed.

If a company is NOT accredited by TICO (or in certain circumstances RECO), then you are entering a HIGH RISK TRANSACTION.  Buyer Beware!  Does the cottage property really exist?  Does the person you are talking to have the authority to rent out the cottage?  Has the cottage been honestly represented?  What are your options if the cottage isn't what you thought you were getting?  These are just a few of the issues you may encounter when not dealing with an accredited cottage rental agency.

Why take chances on your cherished cottage vacation?  Book using an agency accredited by TICO to ensure you have a positive cottage rental experience.
