amazing stay with a spectacular view

This place was a perfect getaway for us. It barely has any cell phone signal (which I think is perfect), lots of space on property, the cottage is well equipped and we had an amazing time. The kids had plenty to do - games inside the cottage, canoeing, swimming (the water is clean and bottom is sandy, which was perfect for our little kids), hanging with a book in a hammock. We plan to return in the fall.

We enjoyed our stay in spite of the weather and the power outages. The lakefront is lovely and the walk in beach is perfect. The cottage itself is fairly comfortable if a little basic. The lack of wifi was not a problem but the lack of cell service was extremely inconvenient.

This was our second year at this cottage. It was a great place to get the family together to relax. No phones or tvs...just us. Love the water here and the coziness of the cottage. Going back next year for sure.

Amazing week at Carleton Beach

Our family owns the very rustic cabin 2 doors down, so it was great to have the view we so enjoy from a cottage with conveniences! The cottage is well equipped and laid out nicely. All the beds have foam toppers, so they're all comfortable. The lack of TV really helped to encourage us to play games in the evening, and the game table was really appreciated. The lot is level enough that even our almost blind, elderly dog was able to navigate it without too much difficulty. The neighbours aren't far away, but not intrusive or particularly noticeable, and the lakeside patio was a great place to sit, providing shade by early afternoon. If you prefer sun , it's available on the dock until late afternoon. We appreciated how close the cottage is to the waterfront as well, and the little plantings and flower pots surrounding the cottage. It's obviously a well loved family cottage, and we'll hopefully return.

The cottage location at Carlton Beach is remote enough to guarantee a relaxing get away yet not isolated if supplies are needed. The sand beach and shallow entry were great for the kids as well. Dispite this , I would not return . Dispite the fact the cottage allows pets ( and small kids) there were poison packs all over the cottage- something I became aware of when I caught my dog chewing one open. Truly irresposible! The neighbour turned up on our last day, before our time was up, and began combing the lawn for dog droppings. I found this to be intrusive, and particularly annoying as the only dog running loose while we were there, and the most probable source of the droppings we found ,was his dog. Also, the long list of cleaning responsibilities is exsessive to say the least considering the cost for the week. Bring in a cleaning lady if you expext the windows to be cleaned! Will not return nor recommend.

All-Season Cottage Rentals' Response:

Thanks for your comments! We feel the need to address a few of your points for clarification and for the benefit of future renters. The cottage owners have always left an ant trap at the front and back door of the cottage, and one inside the bathroom vanity, more as a precautionary measure as ants have been a major issue in the area over the past few years (but not at this cottage due to the traps). They also have a child/pet proof mouse poison device behind the wood box in the living room. This weighs about 50lbs, so it's unlikely any pet or child would get in there. The cottage owners have kids and a dog. These things have never been an issue and are quite common in cottages. Being good neighbours, the people next door noticed that their dog did it's business on the cottage lawn so they came and picked up after it. This is a common courtesy in cottage country and simply responsible pet ownership. There is extremely high demand for cleaners in cottage country during the summer. Cleaners are not available for all cottages which is why we ask for guests help by leaving the cottage clean and tidy before heading home. The general rule of thumb is to leave the cottage in the same condition as when you arrived. And yes, this does include cleaning smudges from kids fingers or pets nose's off glass doors/windows. This is the 'norm' for all cottage rentals in our area and is simply part of cottaging in the Highlands. Cleaning can often be arranged with advance notice at an additional cost. Guests interested in hiring a cleaning service are encouraged to discuss this at the time of booking so arrangements can be made in advance while there is still available cleaners.

We stayed at the Carleton Beach Cottage during the first week in August, and it was terrific. The cottage sits nice and close to the water, with a good level lot. Everything was in good condition (including the outdoor amenities, like the dock, etc.), and the cottage was very clean, spacious and comfortable. Great swimming, and awesome view of Haliburton Lake. I would definitely rent the Carleton again, and I've already recommended this cottage to a friend for next year. Thanks for everything, Shaun!

This cottage wasn't big but it was a "cottage". Something we all wanted. Comfortable inside and out. Well cared for and great beach and water for swimming. Intend on going to this one again.

We stayed at Carleton Cottage with our extended family and had a thoroughly enjoyable week. Cottage was well equipped for all our needs. Very peaceful atmosphere! Spent the whole week either in the water, boating or lounging around. Kids were never bored. We look forward to returning!
