We had a wonderful week at this cottage - the cottage itself was exactly what we wanted, comfortable, clean and cozy. Loved the wooden interior! It felt like stepping back in time ... what a real cottage should be. And the view ... can't say enough about the view. The swim area was sandy bottom and weed free as promised. Be prepared for the trek from the parking area to the cottage and from the cottage down to the dock areas - this would be a difficult place for folks with mobility issues. We spent a lot of our time on the lovely deck at the side of the cottage just enjoying the view and relaxing. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone just needing a getaway to recharge and unwind.

Back again for our second year in a row, our family of five had another fantastic stay. In addition to a nice clean cottage with great waterfront, a lake that is surprisingly quiet for its size, all the water toys you could need, the owners also did some upgrades (new TV) which was a bonus. Cell service on Rogers is not great, but a good excuse to switch off. Look forward to coming back next year. Rob.

This was the perfect rustic cottage experience and hit the mark on all fronts for us. Private yet not too far off the beaten path, great lake that was big enough for boating but not too busy, cottage has a great view with all the amenities, water front is amazing with both shallow and deep entry, marina on the lake with very friendly owners and the cottage owners too were extremely friendly and responsive with any questions.

Full disclosure - I have a friend of a friend who has an awesome cottage on Little Hawk where I have had the pleasure of staying for a few nights. As a result I spent many of my summer holidays throughout high school and university camping via canoe up on Clear and Blackcat lakes. We also investigated many other canoe trails on Red Pine and Nunikani. Fast forward 25 years and here I am again with my carefully chosen summer cottage rental, family in tow (wife and two young boys). Did I mention the view? This cottage is awesome! The swimming is outstanding. Both deep and shallow access without weeds! The interior is clean, yet littered with historical artifacts fit for a museum. The internet is spotty but usable, perhaps the holy grail of cottage connectivity. Like many cottages in this area, the approach to the water is steep and as a result the cottages are built higher up. But the trade-off for climbing all those steep stairs is the unbeatable view especially from inside the cottage. On a nice calm day in the middle of our stay I took my boys, 7 and 5 out on a day trip with picnic provisions in the canoe up to Blackcat. I really appreciated the quality canoe that made the day trip possible and my memories of bringing my boys up there will provide me with comfort for the rest of my life. While price wasn't the primary factor for our decision to rent this particular cottage, it is very competitively priced and we are all happy with the experience. We would most certainly be enthusiastic to rent this cottage again.

I very much enjoyed my stay at Big Hawk Lake cottage. The location and lake is excellent. The weekend was a little busier but the weekdays felt like there was hardly anyone up there which made it nice and quiet. The cottage is great. If I would change or improve anything, it would be to replace the living room furniture with more comfortable couch and chair. When it rained one night there was some water leaking through the ceiling in the dining room area and this might need a little attention so it doesn't cause further damage. Great waterfront property with a great view of the lake. I would definitely come to this cottage again only stay for two weeks instead of 6 days.

We were very pleased with the cottage itself, and the location was just amazing. Great privacy, a large lot, and lots of room at the waterfront. Even though the cottage faces north you have sun most of the day at the lake, yet the cottage stayed cool and comfortable on even the hottest days. There are wide opening windows on all sides of the cottage, so there was always a beautiful breeze, plus the ceiling fans in the main room helped to circulate the fresh air. The huge wall of windows in the dining area is just amazing, and the chair that was thoughtfully placed there was my favourite spot to enjoy a great view of the lake with my morning cup of tea. The only things I'd wish to improve would be more kitchen storage space, and to fix the leaky ceiling. We were lucky not to have any rain until the day we left, but that day it was leaking from a few spots. I wouldn't recommend the cottage for anyone with mobility issues, since the steps down to the water are irregular and have no railing. My elderly mother required a lot of assistance to get to the water. I'd definitely return to the cottage, as long as our senior dog is still able to navigate the steps down to the waterfront.
