Traditional beautiful cottage in the woods.

Overall we had a good week at the cottage. We enjoyed the row boat and paddle boat but did not use the others as we had two kayaks of our own. Swimming was good for those who chose to go into the water. Deep water only no beach. It was a cool week but enjoyed the peace and quiet surroundings.. The steps down to the water gave some of us difficulties as they are uneven and steep height. No mention in cottage discription about the difficulty in unloading and loading car.(steep path) along with path to and from water. Did not like having to clean the dryer and washing machine before using it. Found it difficult unlocking the front door. Poor lighting for combination lock (after dark). Door lock loose difficult using the key.

Not our first time in the Haliburton area, but our first time at this specific cottage. Was a little concerned from the pictures on the site that this might be a little too 'rustic' - but the photos really don't do it justice. Macker's Place is a very well maintained, and obviously well-loved cottage. There was plenty of room for all of us (6 adults, 2 children) and lots to do during our week. The mosquitos were a bit thick during our stay, and I'd have loved to see a screened in area on the deck to eat or enjoy the outdoors undisturbed. The stairs down to the dock are a bit steep, and provided a bit of a workout to and from the lake, but the dock and raft are in excellent condition and the kids more or less lived in the lake for the length of our stay. Next to the waterfront is a lovely stone fire pit; it was beautiful to have a fire next to the serenity of the lake. The only drawback is how close the neighbours are; the cottages on Glamor Lake are set quite close to each other, so you can hear and see the folks next to you - though they were quite friendly. We had a great time together, and would happily come back again.

Beautiful but a very steep climb.

We rented the cottage to have a reunion with family and dear friends. We needed four bedrooms and the beds were all comfortable. We enjoyed the comfort of the large main living/dining room. Our last night was quite cool and we also enjoyed the warmth of the beautiful pot belly stove in that room. We love cooking and the kitchen was well equipped. The view from the cottage and it's surrounding decks was lovely. However, the path to the lake is very steep and the steps were higher than a couple of us could manage. It would also have been helpful to have a railing beside the steep path. We were happy to tidy up when leaving and put everything back into place. However, considering the rental fee, we would have thought that there would be someone to do an overall cleaning after we left. My daughter still had a six hour drive after washing the floors and loading up her car. We had a good week but would suggest you be prepared to do some climbing is staying here. Upon returning, my husband had bursitis in his knee as a result.

Beautiful cottage and great facilities. The stairs down to the dock were a little treacherous. All the lovely shade made the mosquitoes come out. Overall we had a great time here and would come back again.

Hide-away in the woods!

We just came back from a week at Mackers Place and really enjoyed our time there. We travelled with 3 teenage girls and this cottage has plenty of room for everyone. The cottage is well equipped with lots to do from canoes and kayaks, to games and puzzles. There were some nice spots if you wanted to read or relax quietly, and plenty of space on the deck, dining room and around the fire pit for family time. The dock and swimming dock were well used! We spent our days sitting in the sun, swimming, and watching the fish in the lovely clear lake. The lake was even fairly warm! The dock was great for star gazing at night too. The wood fire place kept the cottage warm on cooler nights, the cottage is shaded by many trees which helped keep it cool in the days too. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were decent, the kitchen had all the basics well stocked (pots, pans, plates, bowls, cups, coffee maker, toaster etc), the living room and dining room are nice and bright due to the many windows and sky lights. We forgot to bring our own dish towels, I would recommend bringing your own. The cottage is a pretty 15-20 minute drive to Haliburton. The roads around the cottage are quite hilly and there are some walking trails through the woods that were pretty (they may be ATV trails). It is a rather steep hill to get from the cottage to the lake, may be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. We had a very nice week and really didn't want to leave at the end of it!

We (2 families) stayed here in August 2010 and found this cottage extremely suitable for us. This is a great cottage, comfortable, on a nice quiet bay, great large fire pit by the watetr and fantastic workout to get up to the cottage and back from there! We found this place offering several private locations for writng, painting, reading with a couple of good walks nearby. Located at around 20K from Haliburton, it is far close enough to pop into town for a meal or daily shopping and far enough to make sure you have your shopping list prepared before going into town.
