Great location, cozy well-equipped cottage

Four of us stayed at the Sunflower Sanctuary during the third week in August and for the most part our stay was wonderful. The Sunflower is on a lovely quiet bay on Haliburton Lake near Fort Irwin and even though the neighbouring cottages are quite close we experienced no issues with noise, etc. There was very little boat traffic in that area so for us that was great. We went swimming pretty much every day -the water is fairly shallow for quite a piece out. We saw a family of ducks, a flock of Canada Geese, we heard loons call in the distance, an on our last day a heron flew right by the dock. At night the star-gazing was incredible, especially since we happened to be there during a meteor shower event! The cottage itself is cozy and well-equipped. There are adjustable thermostats in each room (which control baseboard heaters) for chilly evenings. As with most rentals you have to bring your own linens, but I would also suggest bringing a blanket each, as the ones supplied are basically just coverlets. You have a good view of the lake from the dining area and a great view from the wonderfully spacious deck. Watch out for the step on the deck going down to the gazebo area (easily missed if you're not paying attention). The bedrooms are fine, if a bit on the small side. The bathroom is spacious and clean. The t.v. room was perfect for watching DVDs at night (once you figure out how to work the DVD machine), with a comfortable couch and 2 reclining lazy-boys. Although we didn't use the bunkie, we still had a peek inside (partly because you have to plug in the water pump when you get there, which is located just inside the bunkie door). It's a great space for kids because there is a bunk bed, a big t.v. (we didn't turn it on, so no idea if it works or not), two couches and a fridge. All in all we had a great stay at the Sunflower Sanctuary.

Quite and nice area of the lake, the deck is great with a nice covered eating area. Well supplied kitchen. Was not as clean as we were expecting. Especially the washroom, obviously someone had been eating cherries and had left pits around the cottage. Was disappointed about the row boat. Oars didn't attach properly to the boat too big so was unable to use it. The DVD player wasn't connected to the main TV, and was unable to locate the cords. And no extra propane tank was found.

All-Season Cottage Rentals' Response:

The pins in the row boat fit loosely but can be used. There are 5 TV's in this cottage, all connected to DVD players. You can watch movies on all TV's but they are not connected to each other.

A beautiful cottage and lake, hope to return one day.

Overall I was very happy with cottage and location. I would definately return to the cottage and loved the lake. Although it was a little below seasonal conditions, we still enjoyed the lake and the sunsets. If I were to be picky, which is merely feed back for the owners, I would reccomend they look into there plumbing. The bathroom sink drain needs to be cleaned ( Kept clogging ) and the septic is very weak. Hence the need for a plunger! :) However, it is a cottage. We also noticed that the dinning area floor is slightly un-even, possible need of structural work under neath the cottage, this was a slight concern as we were not familiar with the cottage. Also, maybe do a better \" House Keeping check\" in between visits. Unfortunatley on the third night, my wife found ( Mens Underwear ) wedged in between the bed and the wall in the middle bedroom. This did not belong to us! Although we found this slightly humoruous, it was also disturbing. :0 Other than that, we would return :)

We all enjoyed our stay at this cottage. The swimming was great and our city dogs also loved it! Really liked having the gazebo on the deck. The cottage had everything we needed for the week. One area we would say that was not what we thought it was going to be was the boathouse bunkie. Wouldn't have anyone sleep in there as there were no windows and the boathouse doors had large gaps where the bugs would get in and it was extremely hot in there. It advertised horseshoes however,we couldn't find where you could play on level ground.
